A 48-Hour Adventure: Valle de Guadalupe, Puerto Nuevo, and San Diego

In September 2024, we embarked on a whirlwind 48-hour trip that took us from the rolling vineyards of Valle de Guadalupe to the scenic coast of Puerto Nuevo, and finally across the border to sunny San Diego. Though short, the trip was packed with memorable moments, delicious food, and unique experiences.

Day 1: Exploring Valle de Guadalupe

Our journey began in Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico’s wine country, known for its stunning landscapes and world-class wineries. We kicked off the day with a visit to Finca La Carrodilla, an organic winery with a charming rooftop garden that offered sweeping views of the surrounding vineyards. Their wines were delightful, particularly the rosé, which paired perfectly with the serene atmosphere of the tasting room. The staff was knowledgeable and walked us through the winemaking process, making the experience both educational and enjoyable.

Next, we made our way to Valle Girl Vino, a fun and laid-back winery that exuded a relaxed, welcoming vibe. This spot was perfect for sipping wine and soaking up the sun. We enjoyed a flight of wines on their patio, taking in the views of the valley. The standout for me was their crisp white wine, perfect for the warm afternoon.

Dinner in Puerto Nuevo

After a day of wine tasting, we headed to Puerto Nuevo, the famous lobster village. Dinner at Restaurant Las Brisas was nothing short of spectacular. Known for its fresh lobster, the restaurant didn’t disappoint. We indulged in traditional lobster platters, complete with rice, beans, and handmade tortillas. The flavors were rich and satisfying, and the meal offered a perfect ending to a day of exploration. We dined with the sound of waves in the background, creating an idyllic coastal dining experience.

Day 2: Crossing into San Diego

The next morning, we crossed the border into San Diego for the second leg of our adventure. Our first stop was The Cave Store in La Jolla, a quirky shop with a hidden gem—a tunnel that leads down to a sea cave. Walking through the cave, we were greeted by stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. It was a unique experience, one that combined adventure with breathtaking scenery.

We then headed over to Warwick’s, an iconic bookstore in La Jolla. As book lovers, we couldn’t resist spending some time browsing through the well-curated selection of books. Warwick’s has a rich history and is one of the oldest bookstores in the country, offering everything from bestsellers to local authors. I picked up a novel that I had been eyeing, and we enjoyed the calm, literary atmosphere.

Wrapping Up the Adventure

Our 48 hours of exploring Valle de Guadalupe, Puerto Nuevo, and San Diego came to a close with hearts full of gratitude for the experiences we had shared. From sipping wine in the vineyards to eating lobster by the ocean and discovering hidden caves, this whirlwind trip offered the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. Though our time was short, the memories we made will last a lifetime.
